First Steps: education & care centres

First Steps Education and Care Centres were established in 1989 to provide high quality early childhood care and education services. Choosing us means your child will be in a safe, caring environment where they will learn to feel at home with other children.

Since first opening in Palmerston North we've grown and have centres in the Bay of Plenty and Auckland. First Steps is dedicated to quality education and care for children and families. While each centre takes its own personality from its staff and families, you’ll notice that every centre shares the same commitments to high professional standards and a warm nurturing environment.

Learning and play activities are geared to the individual needs of your baby or child. While all staff are responsible for the care of your children in our centres, we operate a “primary caregiver system” so your child receives specific attention from individual teachers. Our learning programmes are based on Te Whariki, the early childhood curriculum developed by the New Zealand Ministry of Education, and incorporate a solid understanding of today’s educational approaches. Children from newborn babies up to the age of five are welcome at our centres.
